ARGYLE - Power hitting froant row players Ashley Bruehlman and Jena Saalsaa helped the Orioles sweep Barneveld Tuesday to clinch the outright Six Rivers East Conference championship.
Bruehlman, a senior, and Saalsaa, a junior, each had 13 kills to power Argyle to a 25-10, 25-20, 25-17 win over the Golden Eagles. With the win, Argyle (14-6, 11-0 Six Rivers East) won its third straight conference title.
"It's been one of their goals," Argyle coach Jen Butler said. "To see them work hard to accomplish that goal is great. To win three in a row has never been done in Argyle volleyball."
Argyle junior Kirtsen Ostby dished out 27 assists and Bruehlman added four aces and had a team-high 10 digs. Junior Jadyn Saalsaa posted eight digs and Jena Saalsaa had four blocks.
Barneveld senior Taryn Pickarts had seven kills. Senior teammate Kennedy Barsness added six assists and Courney Skaife had 17 digs.
Juda 3, Monticello 1
JUDA - After winning the first two sets, the Juda volleyball team dealt with some adversity and battled back to knock off Monticello in four sets Tuesday.
Juda (9-10, 5-6 Six Rivers East) rolled to a 25-8 win in the first set and then pulled out a 25-18 win in the second. The Panthers struggled to get hitting opportunities and the Ponies came back to take the third set 25-10. The Panthers bounced back and cruised to a 25-12 win in the decisive fourth set.
"Monticello did a great job of serving hard and playing tough defense," Juda coach Scott Anderson said. "Once we started passing, staying in system and did what we needed to do things worked out for us I thought we were swinging too hard in the third game. We hit a rough patch. We kept our heads and finished the game like we should."
Juda senior Erika Duecker posted a team-high nine kills and notched five aces. Senior MacKenzie Byrne had 20 assists and senior Hailey Kammerer had a team-best 10 digs. Senior teammate Zoe Rathsack added a team-high three blocks.
Monticello junior Hannah Zanow had seven kills and Abby Wicker posted six kills and three aces. Junior teammate Lindsey Pence dished out a match-high 26 assists and junior Alyssen Noriega racked up 34 digs. With the loss, Monticello drops to 2-9 in the Six Rivers East.
Belleville 3, New Glarus 0
NEW GLARUS -Rachael Heittola had seven kills and four blocks to lead the Wildcats to a sweep over rival New Glarus Tuesday.
Belleville's Jade Halvensleben added six kills and notched a team-high four aces as the Wildcats outpaced the Knights 25-11, 25-20, 26-24.
Sam Trainor dished out 12 assists and Sydney Gentilli posted 14 digs for the Wildcats. With the win, Belleville improves to 6-3 in the Capitol South Conference.
New Glarus senior Julia Barnaby had a team-best six kills, four blocks and two aces. Senior teammate Willow Lee had five kills and five digs. Senior Riley Parker racked up 17 assists and added two blocks. Olivia Xistris added a team-high nine digs.
With the loss, New Glarus drops to 0-9 in the Capitol South. The Knights play at Wisconsin Heights Thursday.
