ARGYLE - A win is a win, and sometimes it only takes one half to make the difference.
"It was a tale of two halves, that's for sure," Argyle coach Kurt Ritschard said after his team beat Monticello 64-29 Friday night.
The two teams were neck-and-neck through 18 minutes, as the Orioles led 24-23 going into halftime.
"We decided that we would communicate a little bit more on defense, and it paid off," Ritschard said. "Originally at the beginning (of the game) we pressed them, but I thought Monticello was handling it. Then we got into foul trouble and had two starters on the bench."
In the second half, Argyle rose to the occasion, spreading the ball around on offense and clamping down on the fundamentals on offense en route to a 40-6 run to close the game.
Kristen Ostby scored all 12 of her points in the second half, Alysabeth Lantz had 7 of her 11 in the frame and Jena Saalsaa had 16 of her 28 points in the period.
Argyle (9-1, 4-1 Six Rivers East) now gets nearly two weeks off before hitting the hardwood again Jan. 4 at Highland. Monticello (2-7, 1-3) was led in scoring by Alyssen Noriega (11) and Abby Wicker (9). The Ponies next game is at Cambridge on Thursday.

JUDA - Montana Steinmann had 13 points, Hailey Kammerer scored 12 and Hannah Powers added 10 as the Panthers rolled to an easy Six Rivers East win against the Vikings.
