Argyle escapes Beloit Turner

BELOIT - Jazmyn Thoman didn't spend a ton of time on the court, but she made the play of the game late in the fourth quarter to lift the Argyle girls basketball team to a 55-54 win over Beloit Turner Monday.

With Argyle (12-6, 7-2 Six Rivers East) clinging to a three-point lead, Thoman came up with a steal and made 1 of 2 free throws with 5 seconds to go to give the Orioles a four-point lead. Beloit Turner's Kenzie Krizmanich drilled a 3-pointer at the buzzer, but Thoman's free throw gave the Orioles the two-possession lead they needed with the game on the line.

"It's the only 6 seconds she played in the game," Argyle coach Kurt Ritschard said of Thoman as he pulled some starters who were in foul trouble. "She (Thoman) stepped up big for us. It should be a confidence booster for her."

Argyle sophomore Kayla Butler-Paulson scored a team-high 13 points and Jozey Thoman added 12 points. Argyle senior Jenna Langmeier chipped in 11 points.

"It just goes to show that we are playing unselfish," Ritschard said of the fact that three players scored in double figures. "We have stressed multiple scorers. It's really hard to guard teams that have more than one or two scorers."

Parkview 43,

Black Hawk 36

ORFORDVILLE - The Black Hawk girls basketball team is still searching for consistency after a 43-36 non-conference loss to Parkview Monday.

Black Hawk 4-13, 2-5 Six Rivers East) jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the first quarter. The Vikings outscored the Warriors 13-3 in the second quarter to take a five-point lead at the half. The Warriors scored the bulk of their points (16) in the fourth quarter, but the offense came late.

"I thought in the middle two quarters we just didn't have a whole lot of spark," Black Hawk coach Mike Flanagan said. "Our shots didn't fall. If we play with that same urgency like we did in the fourth quarter, this score could have looked differently. Consistency has been a big issue."

Black Hawk junior Aleigha Sigafus scored a game-high 12 points and fellow junior Tatum Jackson added 10 points.

Parkview's Mariah Gestrich scored a team-high 11 points. McKenzie Saglie and Hanna Kearns each added eight points. Kearns scored all eight of her points in the big second quarter.

"She gave us some trouble inside," Flanagan said. "I think our defense was really good on first shots. We weren't very good at boxing out. They got a lot of points off second shots."
