HIGHLAND - A putback off an offensive rebound with 3 seconds left lifted the Highland boys basketball team to a 48-46 victory over Argyle Monday night.

The Orioles led 20-17 at halftime but trailed by five late in the second half. With 26 seconds to play, Argyle sophomore Mitch Flannery scored, was fouled and completed a three-point play at the free-throw line to tie the game at 46.

Highland's J.R. Linscheid misfired on a shot with 5 seconds left but Derek Miller got the rebound and scored to lift Highland to the win.

Argyle falls to 1-5.

"We are a couple of plays away from being a .500 ball club," Argyle coach Justin Jenson said. "This one hurts. We are a young team, and hopefully we can turn this into a positive and learn from it. It will be worth it if we turn these games into wins later in the season."

Senior Collin Argue led Argyle with 17 points. He had one 3-pointer and was 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.

Senior Mitch Dammen added nine points for the Orioles.

Linscheid, who scored 31 points against Argyle last season, was held to nine points by Flannery.

"Flannery stepped up big time defensively and did a heck of a job," Jenson said.

Bray Drury scored a game-high 18 points, all in the second half, for Highland.
