Argyle, Black Hawk score victories

ARGYLE - Playing for two weeks without first-team all-conference performer Ashley Bruehlman has been a challenge for the Argyle volleyball team, but the Orioles have passed each test with flying colors.

Argyle junior Jena Saalsaa racked up 12 kills and two blocks to lead the Orioles to a 25-16, 25-16, 25-19 win over Monticello Tuesday. With the win, Argyle improves to 11-6 overall and 8-0 Six Rivers East.

Argyle coach Jen Butler said Bruehlman has a lower-leg injury and could return as soon as this week.

"I think our serving was key," Butler said. "We kept our serving aggressive. Our hitters were executing really well and finding the open court."

Argyle junior Kirsten Ostby dished out 21 assists and had four aces. Junior Jadyn Saalsaa notched eight digs and senior Dorissa Denure had a team-high five aces.

Monticello junior Hannah Zanow had a team-best six kills and junior Lindsey Pence racked up 15 assists and added two aces. Sophomore teammate Maggie Bak posted a team-high three blocks and sophomore Sarah Blumer had a team-best 14 digs.



Black Hawk 3, Juda 0

SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk looked to keep pace with Argyle in the Six Rivers East Conference after rolling to a sweep of Juda Tuesday.

Black Hawk freshman Bailey Butler piled up a team-high 14 kills to lead the Warriors to a 25-12, 25-22, 25-10 victory over the Panthers. With the win, Black Hawk improves to 7-1 in the Six Rivers East, just one win behind conference-leading Argyle. Juda drops to 8-10 overall and 3-5 in the Six Rivers East.

Black Hawk senior Hannah Herbst had 17 assists and junior Sydney Delzer posted four blocks. Sophomore Hannah Butler added six kills.

Juda senior Hailey Kammerer had a team-best six kills and 21 digs. Senior teammate MacKenzie Byrne racked up 15 assists and Karlee Kessler posted two aces.



McFarland 3, Brodhead 0

MCFARLAND - The Spartans rolled to a Rock Valley Conference sweep of Brodhead Tuesday, 25-14, 25-20, 25-20.

Brodhead junior Abbey Johnson had five kills, 19 assists and 22 digs.

Cardinals senior Chandra Clark and sophomore Katie Goecks each had a team-high seven kills. Brodhead's Brooke Bescup pitched in 14 digs and Alexis Oliver had 11 digs. Clark posted two aces and two blocks.
