Argyle aces Pecatonica

ARGYLE - The Argyle High School volleyball team rode some hot serving to sweep Pecatonica on Thursday in the Six Rivers Conference opener for the Orioles.

After a conference bye Tuesday, Argyle wasted no time in getting a Six Rivers East win, rolling to a 25-7, 25-12, 25-13 win over the Vikings.

Argyle (2-1, 1-0) had 24 aces as a team. Junior Ashley Bruehlman had a team-high 10 kills, six digs and six aces. Senior Kayla Butler-Paulson racked up 29 assists and notched five aces. Senior Sam Mick also added five aces.

"They came out strong right away," Argyle coach Jen Butler said. "Our serves were on. It was good to see them step up. Serving is something we really work on. It was good to see them with aggressive serves."

Argyle sophomore Jena Saalsaa had eight kills, and junior Dorissa DeNure posted five digs and had one block.

Senior Liz Tisch had three assists for Pecatonica (2-2, 1-1). Junior Hannah Kittleson posted two aces.

Argyle hostes Barneveld on Tuesday.



Black Hawk 3, Albany 0

SOUTH WAYNE - Senior Sammy Lovelace had 11 kills and four aces to lead the Warriors to a 25-12, 25-10, 25-15 victory over Albany.

Black Hawk (3-1, 1-1 Six Rivers East) was coming off a five-set loss to Pecatonica on Tuesday.

"We had to rebound from Tuesday night," Black Hawk coach Rachel Wolff said referencing the loss to the Vikings in the conference opener. "I was happy the girls came out on a good note. We came out hard in that first set and that kind of takes some of the pressure off. Albany is a team that is improving every time we see them."

Black Hawk junior Hannah Herbst collected 11 assists, and Elizabeth Holland, Hannah Butler and Jordyn Delzer each had a block.

Senior Sayde McDermott posted two blocks for the Comets (0-6, 0-2).

"I think in volleyball you can beat yourself," Wolff said. "We didn't do that. We had all of the kids contribute."



Barneveld 3, Juda 1

BARNEVELD - Barneveld's Teegan Pickarts and her sister Taryn Pickarts were too much for Juda to handle.

Both Teegan Pickarts and Taryn Pickarts had nine kills and 10 assists to lead the Golden Eagles to a 25-13, 17-25, 25-21, 25-16 victory.

Barneveld improves to 2-0 in the Six Rivers East, and Juda drops to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in conference.

"Both the Pickarts sisters were swinging really strong," Juda coach Scott Anderson said. "You can only fight back so many times. I'm proud of our team because we battled. I'm proud with the level of hustle we showed."

Juda junior Hailey Kammerer notched four aces and had two blocks. Senior Alexis Goecks had a team-best 21 digs.

Juda senior Sara Jordan had a team-high seven kills, and senior Chelsea Burkhalter had eight assists.
