STEVENS POINT - Monroe's Kasey Gutzmer will have one more chance to put on her cleats and swing the bat before she moves on to play softball at Madison College.

Gutzmer is one of six local players slated to play in the Wisconsin Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Star games today at Zenoff Park in Stevens Point.

Gutzmer will play on the Division 2 Red team. In addition to Gutzmer, the Juda trio of Katlyn DeVoe, C.J. Dunwiddie and Amber Ramos will play on the Division 4 Black team. Argyle's Danielle Treuthardt and Pecatonica's Michala Boese will play for the Division 4 Gray team.

"I was really surprised," Gutzmer said of her selection to the team. "It's probably at the top (of the list) next to the state (title) game. It's fun playing and you get to meet new people."

Gutzmer, who will play two games with the Division 2 Red team, is playing on a Fastpitch USA team this summer that practices in Orfordville.

Gutzmer said playing on the Fastpitch USA team will help prepare her for college softball. She takes pride in her fielding, but she isn't satisfied. She wants to be known as an all-around player.

"I like going long distances to make nice catches," Gutzmer said. "Hitting-wise, I have to improve."

Dunwiddie also will be going to Madison College, but to play basketball. She is playing in the all-star game with two teammates from a Panthers squad that won the Six Rivers East Conference for the fourth straight year and advanced to the sectional.

"I get to play again with two girls I have played softball with since first grade," Dunwiddie said. "I feel really accomplished. Even though we didn't make it to state we have proven that all the hard work has paid off. We have accomplished a lot of things a lot of teams didn't accomplish."

Ramos received a scholarship to play softball at Highland Community College in Freeport, Ill.

"It says I'm really good at something," Ramos said of her selection to the team. "It's not just in my mind. It's what someone else says. It really means more, in my opinion. All the hard work has paid off."

DeVoe, who will attend Iowa State University, said she will try to walk on the softball team.

"It's an amazing feeling to be considered and nominated to play in the All-Star game with the best girls in the state," DeVoe said. "I'm just going to make the best of it and do the best I can."
