DARLINGTON - The Darlington softball team reeled off a six-run sixth inning and won Tuesday's game, 8-7, in the ninth off a couple of errors by Iowa-Grant on a steal by Carson Crist.
Iowa-Grant held a 6-1 lead after five innings, but the Redbirds started making noise in the sixth.
"We got a leadoff walk and then they switched pitchers," Redbirds coach Andy Sawall said. "Then they hit a batter, walked another and we managed to string off a bunch of hits."
Brett Hardyman had a home run. Wade Black, who also pitched in relief, hit a double, and Taylor Wiegel was 2-for-5 at the dish. Wiegel also notched the win, pitching the final three innings for Darlington.
In the ninth, Tyler Shager walked and Sawal inserted Crist as a pinch runner.
"He's the fasted kid we have. He did his job," Sawall said.
Crist went to steal second right away and the throw from the catcher went into centerfield. While charging toward third, the throw from the outfield got past the third baseman and went beyond the dead-ball line, allowing the winning run to cross the plate.
"This is our third extra-inning game of the year and first win of those three. I'm glad to see us come back and get this one," Sawall said.
Belleville 4, New Glarus 2
BELLEVILLE - Nick Stuessy allowed just three earned runs but took the loss Tuesday for the Knights.
New Glarus managed only three hits and a walk, and could not take advantage of three Wildcat errors.
Matt Felt hit a solo home run. Tyler Argal hit a triple for Belleville and Jared Rear picked up the win.
