LENA - On Aug. 6, Black Hawk High School alumni and friends will hold its annual golf outing for a scholarship fund that was set up 11 years ago for longtime teacher and coach Dennis Murphy. The event will take place at Wolf Hollow Golf Course in Lena, Ill.
This is the second annual golf outing. Last year, the event was held at Yellowstone Golf Course in Argyle and had 85 golfers play nine holes. More than $2,500 in scholarship money was raised.
According to Dick Haffele, one of the founders of the scholarship fund, there will be more than 100 golfers this year. Due to the fact that it is an 18-hole course and can hold 140 golfers on a shotgun start, Wolf Hollow was picked to host the 2011 outing.
"Wolf Hollow has been very supportive with their prices," Haffele said.
There is still room for more four-somes to join. Haffele said that anyone can join, not just alumni. To join, contact Wolf Hollow at (815) 369-8618.
"When we started we wanted to have alumni participate, but now its friends and other people from the nearby communities, including Monroe," Haffele said.
A shotgun start is slated for 10 a.m., rain or shine.
