NEW GLARUS - The Sugar River girls soccer team isn't enjoying the magical ride that last season's 22-win edition did, but coach John Ziperski likes how the Raiders are playing late in the regular season.

Sugar River has a 12-5-2 overall record after splitting two games Saturday in the Three Rivers Quad - defeating Onalaska 3-1 and losing 2-1 to La Crosse Aquinas.

"The girls are healthy and we're looking forward to the postseason," Ziperski said. "Our defense has been pretty solid - (junior) Kaitlin Jennrich has really done a great job in the back. Our midfield is working hard and our forwards are looking for opportunities."

Junior midfielder Karly Anderson certainly finished her chances Saturday, scoring twice against Onalaska and adding a third goal against Aquinas to push her goal-scoring total to a team-high nine.

Junior Shelby Hubbard scored Sugar River's first goal against Onalaska, in the 14th minute, and Anderson added goals in the 15th and 70th minutes.

Against Aquinas, Anderson tied the game in the 62nd minute before the Blugolds netted the game-winner with about 5 minutes left.

"Karly is really stepping it up," Ziperski said. "She's been really consistent all year and she's really given us a good punch out of the middle."
