All four singles players, top doubles still alive for Monroe

MADISON - All four of Monroe's singles players and the Cheesemakers' No. 1 doubles team are still in contention for championships at the Badger Conference tennis tournament.

Monroe senior Kristin McArdle, the No. 2 seed at No. 1 singles, defeated Baraboo's Kayla McGonigle 6-0, 6-1 on the first day of the conference tournament.

Junior Ellie Shuda, who is the No. 2 seed at No. 2 singles, defeated Fort Atkinson's Katie McCarthy 6-0, 6-3.

At No. 3 singles, junior Lily Priewe knocked off Stoughton's Magen Krage 6-0, 6-2. Priewe is the No. 1 seed at No. 3 singles.

Senior Alyssa Quinn won two matches to advance. Quinn beat Monona Grove's Nicole Hildebrandt 6-3, 6-4, and DeForest's Mackenzie Spurgat 6-2, 6-2.

The Cheesemakers' No. 1 doubles team of senior Kelsey Erickson and junior Brooke McBain defeated Monona Grove's top doubles team in three sets 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Seniors Rachel Thompson and Becca Flannery lost to Oregon 6-1, 6-3.

The Cheesemakers' No. 3 doubles team of senior Elisabeth Brunner and freshman Ellie Grossen won a three set match over Milton 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 and then lost a three set match to Sauk Prairie 6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-3.
