MONROE - Monroe Senior Legion baseball coach Eric Losenegger doesn't want a late lead slipping away to turn into a tailspin on the season after Albany rallied to hand Monroe its first loss 11-9.

He didn't want his players to relive what many of them experienced during the high school season when Monroe started the spring 5-0, then after blowing a lead to Milton lost five straight to fall to .500.

"I just tried to remind them to make sure they remember this one hurt," Losenegger said. "Certainly, we can learn from our mistakes in the spring so we don't go through that now."

Monroe carried a 9-5 lead into the sixth inning before Albany stormed back scoring six runs. Albany's Cody Schultz, who was 4-for-5, had a game-tying two run double. Schultz had a homer and two doubles.

"He basically killed us," Losenegger said.

Carson Scheidegger, who was 3-for-4, came through with a two-run double that gave Albany the 11-9 lead for good.

Argyle's Cole Jordan went 2-for-3 for Albany.

Monroe scored three runs in the fifth including a key two-run triple by Jon Elmer to take a 9-5 lead. Monroe was led by Kramer Henning who went 2-for-3 and Mitch Marty who was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Monroe's Dylan Cleveland started and pitched four innings. He gave up four runs on six hits. Cleveland walked three. Dylan Schwitz and Henning also pitched for Monroe. Three pitchers combined to walk eight and Monroe had three errors. Six of the 11 runs Albany scored were unearned.

"There are some things we need to work on for sure," Losenegger said. "The nice thing about it is we can get right back out there and get one tomorrow."

Monroe's Senior Legion team plays at Milton today.
