SOUTH WAYNE - Albany senior Tyler Dahl and junior Brock Gilkes combined for six hits to lead the Albany High School baseball team to a 13-3 win over Black Hawk on Tuesday.
Dahl went 3-for-5 with two RBI, and Gilkes was 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI to pace the Comets.
Albany broke the game open with a four-run second to take a 6-0 lead.
"It was great to see Brock break out of a slump," Albany coach Mitch Heinemeyer said. "Hopefully, we can get hot."
Albany (5-1, 4-0 Six Rivers East) stays unbeaten in the conference and keeps pace with defending Six Rivers East Conference champion Pecatonica.
"They are playing with a lot of confidence right now," Heinemeyer said of his players. "We have been putting the ball in play more and not striking out nearly as much as last year. It's showing on the scoreboard."
Albany's Corbin Kelley finished 2-for-4 with one RBI. Kelley pitched six innings to get the win. He gave up two earned runs on 10 hits. He struck out five and walked three.
Black Hawk sophomore Jett Rufenacht went 2-for-3, and sophomore Brody Milz was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Black Hawk junior Reesan Ruch pitched a complete game. He gave up 10 earned runs on 13 hits. Ruch struck out three and walked five.
Barneveld 3, Argyle 2
BARNEVELD - Argyle jumped out to an early lead, but couldn't hang on as Barneveld rallied and won by scoring the game's final run in the seventh inning.
Argyle junior Collin Argue had two hits, and junior Cam Treuthardt had two RBI for the Orioles.
Argyle senior Riley Ostby pitched 62⁄3 innings and gave up three runs on six hits. He struck out nine.
