BARNEVELD - There is something about playing Barneveld that brings out the best in Albany junior Tyler Dahl with the game on the line.

With Albany trailing by one point, Dahl made a layup and was fouled. He converted the conventional three-point play by knocking down a free throw to give the Comets a thrilling 55-53 win over Barneveld Tuesday. It's the third straight win for Albany over Barneveld.

"He struggled," Albany coach Derik Doescher said of Dahl. "In the end when we needed a play, he made a play."

Dahl also picked up a loose ball and dribbled out the final 11 seconds to seal the win for the Comets.

Albany sophomore Brock Gilkes scored a team-high 18 points to lead the Comets. Albany senior Mitchell Trow scored 17 points and Dahl added 14 points.

Albany led by as many as 17 points during the second quarter. The Eagles responded with a big run outscoring the Comets 19-6 in the third quarter and took a nine-point lead in the fourth quarter.

"For a sophomore to come into this environment and score 18 points is huge," Doescher said of Gilkes.
