Albany girls, boys run to 2nd

PLATTEVILLE - The Albany girls track and field team made a good run at the conference championship, but Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg repeated as Six Rivers Conference champions Monday.

Albany senior Ciara Kaderly won three individual conference championships in the 800-meter run (2 minutes, 26.24 seconds), the 1,600 (5:42.11) and 3,200 (13:23.13).

Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg outdueled the Comets 152-143 for the title. Pecatonica-Argyle took fourth (64) in the nine-team conference meet at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Monticello finished seventh (33) and Black Hawk was last (22).

The Comets swept the top three spots in the 3,200. Albany junior Emma Guenther finished second (13:37.40), and sophomore Megan Anderson took third (14:25.45). The Comets' 3,200 relay team of Sydney Bloedel, Guenther, Lauren Blumer and Haly Knauf won the race in 11:33.62.

Pecatonica-Argyle senior Josie Penniston won conference titles in the 200-meter dash (26.80 seconds) and in the 400 (59.56). Pecatonica-Argyle junior Taetum Pagel won the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 8 inches.

The Vikings' 1,600 relay team of senior Liz Tisch, Penniston, Adriana Johnson and Valerie Carr broke the previous conference record in the race but finished second in 4:19.22. River Ridge won the title in the 1,600 relay in a conference record time of 4:19.01.

Monticello sophomore Alyssen Noriega finished second in the 100 (13.34) and third in the 200 (27.59).

Black Hawk junior Haley Gertsch took second in the 400 (1 minute, 1.54 seconds) and third in the 100 (13.44).

Monticello sophomore Abby Wicker placed second in the 1,600 (5:52.41). The Ponies' 400 relay team of Noriega, Ali Risley, Karlene Walters and Marissa Peterson took second (55.21).

Albany sophomore Libby Beck finished second in the discus (106-11) and second in the shot put (35-51⁄2). Albany junior Maddie Halverson finished third in the triple jump (30-2). Anderson took third in the 1,600 (5:57.43). The Comets' 1,600 relay team also took third (4:26.74).

In the Six Rivers Conference boys meet, Monticello senior Max Hoffmaster won conference titles in the 100 (11.51) and 200 (23.8).

Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg racked up 227 points to capture the conference title. Albany finished second (161.5) in the nine-team conference meet. Pecatonica-Argyle took fourth (59), Monticello placed sixth (42) and Black Hawk was last (5).

Albany senior Isaac Halverson won the 800 (2:07.34) and the 1,600 (4:50.20).

Albany sophomore Josh Dahl won a conference championship in the 3,200 (10:58.20) and finished second in the 1,600 (4:51.29).

Albany junior Garrett Hlavachek placed second in the 400 (53.59). Senior Connor Trow took second in the 300 hurdles (43.92). Albany sophomore Evan Blumer took second in the discus (145-5).

Trow teamed with Hunter Georgeson, Travis Oliver and Hlavachek to lead the Comets' 1,600 relay team to a second-place finish (3:49.78). The Comets' 3,200 relay team of Oliver, Trevor Mueller, Hunter Brewer and Logun Parker took second (9:03).

Monticello's Hoffmaster teamed with Zach Price, Cody Garfoot and Kyle Walters to take second in the 800 relay (1:38.37). Price took third in the 100 (12.0) and senior Bryss Shover placed third in the shot put (41-51⁄2).

Pecatonica-Argyle's 400 relay team of Mamadou Demba, Caleb Carr, Jaden Hendrickson and Tyler Wyttenbach took second (50.13). Pecatonica-Argyle sophomore Joseph Tisch placed third in the 800 (2:09.65).
