Albany boys, girls run to second

PLATTEVILLE - Both the Albany High School girls and boys track and field teams placed second in the Six Rivers Conference meet at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Monday.

Albany junior Ciara Kaderly won two conference championships. Kaderly won the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5 minutes, 39.51 seconds and the 800 in 2:31.93.

Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg captured conference team titles for both the girls and boys.

The Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg girls outdistanced the Comets 198-144. Pecatonica-Argyle took fourth (55), followed by Monticello in fifth (45). Black Hawk finished last in the nine-team meet.

Albany sophomore Emma Guenther won a conference championship in the 3,200 in 12:58.87. The Comets' 3,200 relay team of senior Emily Hauri, freshman Megan Anderson, freshman Payton Zurfluh and sophomore Maddie Halverson won in 11:10.15.

Pecatonica-Argyle junior Josie Penniston captured a conference title in the 400 (59.41).

In the boys meet, Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg ran away with the team title 203-136 over Albany. Pecatonica-Argyle finished fifth (48), Monticello eighth (20) and Black Hawk last (3) in the nine-team meet.

Albany junior Isaac Halverson won conference championships in the 800 (2:11.81) and in the 1,600 (4:41.97).

The Comets' 3,200 relay team of junior Connor Trow, sophomore Garrett Hlavachek, junior Jacob Elmer and sophomore Logun Parker won in 9:35.45.

Pecatonica-Argyle's Owen Aerts won the long jump with a jump of 19 feet, 7 inches.

Albany, Black Hawk, Pecatonica-Argyle, Darlington and Monticello will compete in the WIAA Division 3 Cuba City regional at 3 p.m. Monday.
