TUESDAY, NOV. 18: Black Hawk 71, Clinton 30

CLINTON - It didn't take Black Hawk's girls basketball team long to find its groove on opening night of the 2008-09 season.

The Warriors outscored Clinton by wide margins in every quarter of their non-conference win.

Paige Butler's 20 points led all scorers, with Kim Wellnitz joining her in double digits with 13.

Black Hawk led 16-6 after the first quarter and 35-14 by halftime. Black Hawk then bumped its lead to 53-23 heading into the final frame.

TUESDAY, NOV. 25: Black Hawk 54, Belmont 18

BELMONT - The Warriors (2-0) led 15-3 after the first quarter and 28-4 by halftime of this non-conference rout.

Black Hawk's Paige Butler scored 15 points to lead all scorers. Kim Wellnitz added 13 for the Warriors, while Gabi Lehner scored 10.

MONDAY, DEC. 1: Black Hawk 75, Warren (Ill.) 50

SOUTH WAYNE - The Warriors picked up their third win of the season, soundly beating the Warriors from Illinois in non-conference action.

Black Hawk finished the first period with a 15-7 lead, which was extended to 33-21 at halftime. Kim Wellnitz led the home team with 20 points and Paige Butler had 15.

THURSDAY, DEC. 4: Black Hawk 60, Monticello 25

SOUTH WAYNE - The Warriors used a pressure zone mixed in with good defense and a lot of transition offense to generate a 15-2 lead after the first quarter and a 36-8 halftime edge.

Kim Wellnitz scored a game-high 17 points, Paige Butler scored 10 and Melissa Wellnitz added 12.

FRIDAY, DEC. 12: Black Hawk 67, Pecatonica 52

BLANCHARDVILLE - Paige Butler scored a game-high 27 points, including four 3-pointers, to propel the Warriors over the Vikings.

The Warriors extended their 27-22 halftime lead at the start of the third quarter with a 7-2 spurt, highlighted by Butler's 3-pointer, which pushed the lead to 34-24.

MONDAY, DEC. 15: Black Hawk 55,

New Glarus 28

SOUTH WAYNE - The Warriors had 21 offensive rebounds against the Knights.

The Warriors went on a 17-0 first-quarter run sparked by a full-court press and some dominant offensive rebounding.

Paige Butler scored a game-high 20 points and junior Kim Wellnitz had nine.

TUESDAY, DEC. 30: Black Hawk 59, Orfordville Parkview 51

ORFORDVILLE - Kim Wellnitz scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds, and Gabi Lehner scored 10 as the Warriors halted the Vikings.

Eight Warriors scored in the game.

TUESDAY, JAN. 6: Black Hawk 75,

Argyle 24

ARGYLE - Paige Butler scored 19 points and Kim Wellnitz added 13, as the Warriors rolled the Orioles.

Black Hawk led 22-11 after the first quarter and 43-14 by halftime.

SATURDAY, JAN. 17: Black Hawk 58,

Albany 28

SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk scored the first five points, and picked up an 11-1 lead with 3:24 to go on a free throw by Paige Butler, who finished with 12 points.

Black Hawk continued to roll in the second quarter, using a heavy press to force 21 turnovers and strong post play to extend its lead to 36-12 by halftime.

Kim Wellnitz scored a game-high 13 points.

TUESDAY, JAN. 20: Black Hawk 41, Potosi 39

SOUTH WAYNE - Senior Paige Butler, who scored all of her nine points in the second half, scored down low to tie the score at 38 with 1:47 to go.

Warriors sophomore Melissa Wellnitz then came up with a steal, which led to a fade-away jumper by junior Kim Wellnitz banked in to give the Warriors a 40-38 lead with 1:18 left.

FRIDAY, JAN. 23: Black Hawk 72, Juda 36

SOUTH WAYNE - The Warriors used their press defense to perfection and outscored the Panthers 25-5 in the third quarter.

Kim and Melissa Wellnitz each scored 14 points, senior Hailey Meier scored 10 points and Gabi Lehner and Paige Butler had eight points apiece.

SATURDAY, JAN. 24: Black Hawk 51,

River Ridge 39

SOUTH WAYNE - Black Hawk raced to a 17-10 first-quarter lead and led by nine points at halftime, never trailing and remaining unbeaten.

Senior Paige Butler scored a game-high 15 points and nailed three 3-pointers. Melissa Wellnitz, Kim Wellnitz and Katie Place added seven points each.

MONDAY, JAN. 26: Potosi 55,

Black Hawk 45

POTOSI - The Black Hawk girls basketball team had its bid for an unbeaten season halted with a loss to Potosi.

The Chieftans led the Warriors 24-18 at halftime and outscored Black Hawk 14-6 in the third quarter.

Black Hawk junior Kim Wellnitz led the Warriors with 16 points. Black Hawk seniors Paige Butler and Gabi Lehner each added nine points.

THURSDAY, JAN. 29: Black Hawk 67, Pecatonica 51

SOUTH WAYNE - Kim Wellnitz had 24 points, nine rebounds and three steals in a game that saw running usually seen during track season.

The Warriors led 34-20 at halftime.

Paige Butler scored 18 points, and the teams combined for 49 turnovers.

FRIDAY, FEB. 6: Black Hawk 68,

Argyle 23

SOUTH WAYNE - Paige Butler scored 12 of her game-high 25 points in the first quarter as the Warriors cruised.

The Warriors used a full-court press in the first quarter to jump out to a 24-8 lead on Argyle. By halftime, Black Hawk had pulled away by 18 points, 31-13.

SATURDAY, FEB. 7: Black Hawk 52, Barneveld 37

SOUTH WAYNE - The Warriors went on a decisive 11-0 fourth-quarter run to hand the Eagles their first conference loss in a gym packed with pink T-shirts in a fundraiser for breast cancer research. In a conference showdown dubbed "The Shootout for a Cure," the Warriors wore pink shoelaces and the officials sported pink whistles.

Paige Butler and Melissa Wellnitz each scored 11 points.

MONDAY, FEB. 9: Black Hawk 54, Juda 43

JUDA - Paige Butler collected a souvenir basketball after the Warriors survived upset-minded Juda to hang on for the win.

Butler reached the career 1,000-point milestone by scoring a game-high 18 points to lead the Warriors and became just the second Black Hawk girls basketball player to reach that plateau.

THURSDAY, FEB. 12: Black Hawk 57,

Albany 30

ALBANY - Black Hawk took a 19-9 lead after the first quarter and held a 34-15 advantage at halftime.

Rachel Rygh led the Warriors with 11 points and Paige Butler added 10. Hailey Meier scored 8 points, Kim Wellnitz had 6 and Gabi Lehner scored all 6 of her points from behing the arc. All 11 Black Hawk players scored.

TUESDAY, FEB. 17: Barneveld 52,

BARNEVELD - The Golden Eagles capitalized down the stretch to hand the Warriors their first conference loss in the second Pink Out game dubbed "Shoot for a Cure."

Black Hawk junior Katie Place, who scored a team-high 11 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had three steals.

FRIDAY, FEB. 20: Black Hawk 51, Monticello 24

MONTICELLO - The Black Hawk girls basketball team assured itself a Six Rivers East Conference co-championship with Barneveld after cruising to a win over Monticello.

Black Hawk junior Kim Wellnitz scored a game-high 14 points and senior Paige Butler added 10 points for the Warriors.



TUESDAY, FEB. 24: Regional Quarterfinal - Black Hawk 68,

Madison Abundant Life 20

SOUTH WAYNE - The top seed in the Fort Atkinson Sectional, Black Hawk (19-2) opened its playoff quest for a state title with a pounding of Abundant Life (1-20) in the first round of the WIAA Division 4 state playoffs.

The Warriors used their press and fast-paced offense to take a 32-2 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Paige Butler scored 18 points, Maria Meives scored 10 and Katie Place had 8.

THURSDAY, FEB. 26: Regional Semifinal - Black Hawk 75, Southwestern 34

SOUTH WAYNE - Paige Butler scored 18 points, Melissa Wellnitz had 13 and Kim Wellnitz scored 10 as Black Hawk (20-2) dominated Southwestern (4-17) from the start.

The Warriors jumped out to a 21-2 lead after the first quarter and led 36-10 at halftime. By the end of the third quarter, Black Hawk led 60-18.

SATURDAY, FEB. 28: Regional final -

Black Hawk 57, Pecatonica 42

DARLINGTON - Black Hawk went on a 6-2 run in the first 2:22 of the fourth to take a 41-31 lead and made 17 of 25 free throws, including 12 of 15 in the fourth quarter.

Kim Wellnitz scored 14 points, Gabi Lehner finished with 12 points, despite getting her fourth foul with more than six minutes left, Paige Butler scored eight for the Warriors and added seven rebounds and Katie Place had eight points.

FRIDAY, MARCH 6: Sectional semifinal - Black Hawk 55, Burlington Catholic Central 36

EVANSVILLE - The Warriors came out firing on defense and forced the Hilltoppers into 36 turnovers in the game.

Kim Wellnitz had 19 points and Gabi Lehner had 10.

SATURDAY, MARCH 7: Sectional final - Black Hawk 44, Randolph 30

FORT ATKINSON - Paige Butler finished with a game-high 16 points and Kim Wellnitz added 13 as seven Warriors scored in the school's first sectional championship win.

Black Hawk went on a second-half surge after being tied at halftime. The Warriors converted 8 of 12 free throws in the third quarter, and Black Hawk's speedy defense made it tough for the Rockets to score all night long.
