William F. Blum age 84 of Monroe, died Thursday, March 7, 2019 at the Monroe Clinic Hospice Home. Bill was born on September 17, 1934 in Monroe, the son of William O. and Agnes (Kelly) Blum. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1952 and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1956. Bill married Pauline Krueger on September 20, 1958 and the couple farmed in Clarno Township for over 30 years. He also worked for Carter and Gruenewald as well as driving bus for the Monroe School District. Bill retired after 15 years of employment at the Monroe Wastewater Treatment Facility. He was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church and American Legion Post #84. Bill enjoyed volunteering at the Monroe Clinic Hospital following his retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pauline Blum; two sons, Joel Blum and Peter (Erin) Blum, all of Monroe; six grandchildren, Brock (Beth) Blum, Chris (Mary) Blum, Derek Blum, Heidi Blum, Shawn (Skye) Blum, and Kaylea Bear; four great-grandchildren, Landon, Laylah, Ashton, and Archer; a brother, David (Mary) Blum of Monroe; a niece, Kelly (Bill) Peterson; and a nephew, Morgan Blum. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Alan Blum.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 15, 2019, at 12:00 p.m., at the Monroe United Methodist Church with Reverend Randy Booth officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery.
