Wilbert C. Blumer

Wilbert C. Blumer, age 77, of Monticello passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at his home.  He was born on September 28, 1948 the son of Clarence and Zelma (Kubly) Blumer.  Wilbert attended Monticello Schools; after high school he worked alongside his dad at Blumer Construction until 1980.  He went on to work at Industrial Combustion for 30 years.  Wilbert also volunteered countless hours for the Monticello Fire Department; he was one of the first people to be trained as a First Responder for their department, he served for 47 years in numerous roles, up to the role of Assistant Chief.  He was the kind of person to never say no to helping family and friends with any construction projects or anything that was asked of him, and he only ever accepted good company and a hot meal as payment.

Wilbert is survived by his sons; Scott (Melinda) Blumer of Monroe and Ron Blumer of Madison; grandchildren, Veronica (Peter) Blumer of Verona and Sarah Blumer of Tulsa, OK; siblings, Ralph (Linda) Blumer of Lexington, KY and Jean (John) Kundert of Monroe; two grand-dogs, Asher and Bandit; and many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Jen Blumer; Ernie Strause, who was like a second father to him; loyal companion, his dog, Max; and grand-dogs, Winter and Ranger.

Wilbert’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for all the years of friendship and care from his neighbors Mark, Dana, Molly, Heidi, Annie, and Henry Olson.

Friends and Family may gather to celebrate Wilbert’s life on Sunday, January 18, 2026 at the Monroe Rural Fire Station from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM.  Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home is assisting the family.  Condolence may be sent to: shgfuneralhome.net
