Violet Margaret Gilbertson, age 94, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Friday, Aug. 23, 2024, at Vita-Care Mount Horeb. She was born on May 24, 1930, in Monroe, Wis., the daughter of Theodore and Clara (Kopp) Altman and the twin sister of Viola.

In 1947, Violet graduated from Monroe High School. She married the love of her life, Robert "Jim" Gilbertson, on June 7, 1948, at St. John’s in Monroe. One year later they welcomed their son, Robert Jr. “Bob,” and eight years later their daughter, Lois. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She loved living and working on the family farm for nearly 40 years, where the door was always open to friends and family. She joined the Mount Horeb School District as the head baker and enjoyed her work immensely, going on to become the head cook. Later in life she enjoyed going to the Senior Center to play Bingo and visiting with friends!

Violet and Jim loved going dancing at the New Glarus Hotel and going on trips up north with their family. She proudly cheered on her grandchildren, never missing a single game or concert. She loved to crochet, tend to her yard and garden and decorate her home for the holidays. She was a faithful member of Perry Lutheran Church since 1949, serving as part of the WELCA and Dorcas Circle.

Violet is survived by her daughter, Lois (Fred) Frame; grandchildren, Corey (Andrea) Gilbertson, Danielle (Nick) Stehling, Nicole (Bryan) Schmidt and Kelsey (Greg) Huston; great-grandchildren, Mason Stehling, Brynn Stehling, Reese Stehling, Brooks Gilbertson, Violet Gilbertson, Jameson Schmidt and William "Liam" Schmidt; sister, Sharon Hanson; many other nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert "Jim” Gilbertson; son, Robert "Bob" Gilbertson; twin sister, Viola Saxer; and brothers, Theodore Altman Jr. and LaVerne Altman.

A funeral service was held at Perry Lutheran Church, 1057 WI-78 Trunk, Mount Horeb, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2024, with Pastor Jared Parmley presiding.  Burial took place at Mount Horeb Union Cemetery.
