Vera Marie (Ellefson) Block

Vera Marie (Ellefson) Block, age 94, of Monroe passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at SSM Monroe Hospice Home. She was born the daughter of George and Frances (Stubbe) Ellefson on January 9, 1928 in Monroe. She attended Franklin School. Vera was united in marriage to Chester E. Block at East Wiota Parsonage on January 25, 1946.

Vera and Chester farmed in Cadiz area until moving to South Wayne area. There they farmed until Chester’s death in 1983. Then she helped her son, Roger farm in Jordan Center until she moved to Monroe in 1993. Vera was always busy taking care of her family and her home. She spent many hours tending to her large vegetable and flower gardens; she also canned, made all varieties of pickles, she also made jelly and jam from the berries on their farm. 

Vera is survived by her children, Kathryn (Al) Hannum of Monroe, Roger (Fran) Block of Argyle, Vicki (Larry) Clark of Monroe, Gary (Deb) Block Warren, IL, Barb (Keith) Ott of Juda, Ruth (Kelly) Hosto of Juda, and Bryon Block of Aurora, Co; 8 grandchildren, Dan (Jennifer) Neuenschwander, Rob (Karla) Neuenschwander, Kendra Frei, Karen (Mason) Barber, Nicole (Aaron) Breunig, Danyel (Craig) Oakley, and Brittany (Russ) Redfearn; step-grandchildren, Chris Hay and Becky (Jim) Clark; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Hannah, and lizzie Neuenschwander, Joshua, Julia, and Jacob Neuenschwander, Gavin, Ethan, Zander, and Logan Breunig, Raelynn, Madelynn, Katelynn, and William Redfearn, Madelynn and Garrett Barber, and baby Oakley due shortly; step-great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Wyatt, and Violet Clark; sons-in-law, Bill Neuenschwander and Kenneth Frei, Jr.; siblings, Robert and  Gerald (Ella) Ellefson, and Lyla (Herbert) Koch; sister-in-law, Merikay Ellefson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughters, Lois Frei and LaVonne Neuenschwander; grandson, Nicholas Block; siblings, Eugene Ellefson, Viola (Cecil) Fox, Carol (Elwood) Koch, and Helen (Raymond) Indergand; sister-in-law, Joanie Ellefson.

A Private Family Funeral Services will be held. Burial will be held in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the SSM Monroe Hospice Home.
