Susan J. Thorp, age 66 of Monticello passed away after a 10-month battle with pancreatic cancer at the SSM Monroe Hospice Home on Monday, May 26, 2025 with family by her side.  She was born on October 22, 1958 in Barron, WI the daughter of Raymond and Janet (Malone) Heil.  Susan graduated from Barron High School in 1977.  She first married William Thorp, and Susan gained a step-daughter Jennifer along with her son Ryan.  They would later divorce.  Susan worked as a unit secretary for the Monroe Clinic and SSM Health for 34 years until her retirement.  She was united in marriage to her longtime partner and one true love of twenty-seven years Eddy Kuenzi.   Ed and Sue loved to seek out adventures that were found on their day trips around the area.  Susan loved to decorate for all the different seasons, but Christmas was her favorite.  She loved to knit washcloths, many were made during her chemo treatments and they were given to visitors.  This was Sue to the core always giving to others.  She also loved to dig in the dirt, planting her favorite flowers in the spring.  Most of all she loved and cherished her family, and will be remembered for her uplifting spirit and beautiful smile. 

Susan is survived by her husband Ed Kuenzi, step-daughter Jennifer Niffenegger, grandchildren Kaleigh Krueger, Kya Niffenegger, Adley Niffenegger, Ashlea (Alex) Laury, Summer Thorp, Elise Thorp, and Emily Thorp, and two great-grandchildren AdaLynn and Amelia Laury.  She is further survived by her siblings Vince (Ami) Heil, Rhonda (Lee) Millerman, Karen (Tom) Heffner, Darcy (Glen) La Blanc, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Ryan Thorp, and brother Charles Heil.

Private family services will be held at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI.

Inurnment will be at a later date in the Wayside Cemetery, Barron, WI.

The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff of SSM Health Hospice Home Monroe for their loving care of our lovely Sue.
