Stephen “Steve” Nelson, age 58, of Monroe passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at his home.  He was born on April 20, 1965 the son of Richard and Linda (Beutel) Nelson.  Steve graduated from Monroe High School, where he competed in wrestling.    

Steve previously worked at Colony Brands and Wisconsin Cheese Group, most recently he worked for the Monroe School District where he was a custodian.  He also worked part time cooking for the American Legion and Bennetts Junction House.  Steve loved music and guitars, one of his favorite memories was playing concerts on the square in 2014 with Universe Band.  Another passion of his was cooking, especially chili cook offs and winning second place in the best burger competition.   Steve enjoyed Halloween, haunted houses, county fairs, demolition derbies, taffy, anything circus related, and fishing. 

Stephen is survived by his parents, Richard (Judy) Nelson and Linda (George) Engles; siblings, Kevin (Becky) Nelson of Monroe; sister, Wendy (Dave) Tschudy of Monroe; and nephew, Zander Nelson.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents. 

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home.  Private Graveside Services will be held in the spring.  Condolences may be sent to: shriner111.com.
