Sonja Rose “Tootsie” Olson, age 85 passed away on Thursday, January 1, 2026 at Meriter Hospital in Madison.  She was born on December 25, 1940 in Madison, WI the daughter of Roy and Florence (Bavery) Olson.  Sonja graduated from Belleville High School in 1959, and she started working at Manchester’s Department Store in Madison.  Later Sonja would work for several years in the deli at Lehnherr’s grocery store in Belleville.  She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Belleville.  In her retirement she was happiest with a TV, a word search book, and her phone to keep in touch with family and friends.

Sonja is survived and much loved by her ten nieces and nephews Susan (William) Babler, William (Debra) Rupp, Mary (Mike) Anderson, Brian (Cheryl Austin) Olson, Dan (Tonya) Olson, Tom (Lynn) Olson, Steve Olson, Rick (Mary Sue) Olson, Rob (Tiffani) Olson, and Rhonda (Jeff) Czurak, and their families.  She is further survived by a brother-in-law Peter Rupp, sisters-in-law Ruth Ann Olson and Sharon Fisher.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Janice Rupp, and brothers Monte and Roger Olson.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI with Rev. Laura Kolden officiating.  Inurnment will be at a later date in the Belleville Cemetery.

A gathering will precede the memorial service from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home in Belleville.
