ROGER ROLAND MATZKE

Roger passed away at the Clement Zablocki VA Hospital in Milwaukee WI where he was in Hospice for ALS on December 1, 2025. He was born on a farm in the Monroe WI area on October 5th, 1936, the son of John and Bessie (Shelton) Matzke. He graduated from the M.H.S. class of 1954. He married Nancy Stauffacher - his next door neighbor in Monroe - on July 30, 1960 and they were together for 65 years. He then completed MIT in Milwaukee and was sent from the Air Force reserves overseas to Germany during the Berlin Crisis of 1961. He went into business on his return and his last position was with the Walter Gustin Insurance Company as V.P. of Human Resources. He loved to sing with his guitar, square dance, bowl, and play golf. In his retirement he and his wife spent the winters in Arizona. Surviving relatives are his wife and two daughters - Debra Cope, Keri and her husband David Morris as well as four grandchildren - Nathan Cope, Morgan, Jack and Cole Morris plus his sister Linda and her husband Art Sullivan and nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service is planned on Saturday, April 18 at Newcomer Funeral Home in Monroe. He will be interred in Greenwood Cemetery.
