Robert R. Cleaveland, 94 of Rockford (formerly of rural Freeport and Monroe/Juda, WI) passed away at the Fairhaven Retirement Center in Rockford on August 10, 2025. He was born on January 27, 1931 to Earl and Lena (Zweifel) Cleaveland. He married Darlene Cain on September 3, 1955. She passed away on February 3, 2019.
Robert loved fishing, woodworking, snowmobiling and was always willing to help others in need. He was very proud of his Swiss heritage and loved going to Cheese Days in Monroe, WI. In recent years, he was acknowledged as being the oldest member of the former Van Brocklin Church in rural Freeport, Illinois.
He is survived by his children Tim (Filamena) Cleaveland of Riverside, RI; Todd (Kelly) Cleaveland of Roscoe, Il and Ronda Cleaveland of Rockford, Illinois. He also has a sister, Anna Miller of Albany, WI and a niece Renee Cain of Freeport. His legacy includes his grandchildren Alex (Dakota) Cleaveland of Milwaukee, WI; Nicole (Robert) Gorsline of Roscoe, Il; Kevin (Sophia) Cleaveland of RI and Chris Cleaveland of Riverside, RI. He also has 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Darlene; a grandson; his brothers, Charles, Lee and Elmer Cleaveland and his sister, Bertha Kopplin.
There will be a visitation on Friday, August 15, 2025 from 4-7pm at Walker Mortuary Freeport, Illinois. A service will follow on Saturday, August 16th beginning at 10:30 at Bolton Community Church (Formerly Van Brocklin -Florence Church). His final resting place will be at Oakland Cemetery in Freeport next to Darlene. Condolences can be left for the family at www.walkermortuary.com.
