Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Robert C. Lostetter, 78 of Monroe, passed into the arms of his Lord on Friday, December 5, 2025. Bob was born on January 18, 1947, in Lancaster, Wisconsin, the son of Charles and Helen (LeGeune) Lostetter. He graduated in 1965 from Monroe High School and went on to apprentice in plumbing at the age of 18. In 1968, he married his high school sweetheart, Linda Schild in Monroe, and together they had 2 children.
He was employed by several union plumbing companies but established Lostetter Plumbing in 1983. Retiring this year after plumbing for 60 years, his work ethic was never questioned as he became the “Little Plumber that Cares” as he was always available to help when called upon. He was always intrigued by a plumbing problem that seemed unsolvable, tinkering and researching until he could figure it out.
Outside his long working hours, he and Linda were hardly ever seen apart, doing everything together. They enjoyed camping when the children were small and later riding their Honda Goldwing with the “gang”. In later years, when the grandchildren came along, they were often traveling to Michigan to visit and cheer at the children’s soccer, basketball, volleyball, and lacrosse games. Not wanting to miss anything, he tuned into a special computer web site that was streaming local high school games to see the grandkids score goals, hoops and kills. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
His soft quiet smile and demeanor will be remembered by all who knew him. He seldom met a stranger or client that didn’t become a friend. He loved meeting new people and spending time with old friends. He very much enjoyed keeping up with his 1965 classmates with monthly class gatherings, weekly breakfasts and reunions.
Robert is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda; son, Jason of Monroe; daughter, Tara (Tim) Fischer; grandchildren, Eva Fischer, Abraham Fischer, Annika Fischer, and Emma Fischer, all of Mason, Michigan; brothers, Timothy of Platteville, and Dennis of Madison; mother-in-law, Beatrice Schild; brother-in-law, John (Carol) Schild, of Monroe; sisters-in law, Mary (Robert) Severson of Juda, and Eileen Lostetter and family, of Staten Island, NY; Aunts, Grace Gullickson of Stoughton and Susie Lostetter of Black River Falls; many cousins, and special cousin, Lisa Regino of Milwaukee, who visited him nearly daily in his final weeks.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, John W. Schild; nephew, Thomas Lostetter; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Special thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses in the Cardiovascular ICU at St Luke’s Aurora Medical Center in Milwaukee, who provided Bob and his family with the best possible care and compassion, during his final weeks.
A visitation will be held Friday, December 19, 2025, at the Monroe United Methodist Church from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Memorial services will be held at the church on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., with a short visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Zach Bloom and Pastor Mary Gafner will officiate. Burial will be at a later date.
