Robert 'Bob' O. Monson, 94, died at home with family at his side on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024, with his final words being: Joanne. He was born Feb. 4, 1930, in Lafayette County, WI, to the late Theodore 'Ted' and Ona G. (Hanson) Monson. He graduated from Darlington High School. On Jun. 5, 1954, he was united in marriage to Joanne Cavanaugh in Darlington, WI and they would share 70 years of marriage before Joanne's death on Sept. 9, 2024.
Bob worked as a heavy equipment operator travelling extensively for the RT Madden Company and Janesville Sand and Gravel. Bob served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he began his heavy equipment operator love in the Army Corps of Engineers. He was a member of the VFW and Legion and a proud member of the WI Operating Engineers Local 139 even receiving his 65 year pin.
Bob was a faithful member of Nativity of Mary Catholic Church and was very involved in the church including with Meal on Wheels. Bob is survived by 3 sons Randy Monson, Bruce (Lynn) Monson, and Kevin Monson; grandchildren: Eric (Kara) Monson, Abbey (Matt) Husen, Max (Rachael) Monson, Lisa (Rich) Pember, Corey (Jenny) Larsen, Michael Mansell, and Melissa (Brad) Hanthorn; great grandchildren: Kyla, Luke, Amaya, Aiden, Addison, Austin, Alice, Anna, Alex, Mia, Jack, Elena , Atlas, Xadius, and Vinnie; great great grandchildren: Nia, Elijah, and Isaiah; sister-in-law Margaret Zimmerman; sister-in-law Joanie Cavanaugh; nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents; wife Joanne Monson on Sept. 9, 2024; daughter-in-law Sue Monson; and his brothers: Jerry Monson, Donald (Helen) Monson, and twin Roger (A. Marian) Monson; his sisters: Jean (Jack) Klussendorf, Margie Monson; and June Monson.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, at NATIVITY OF MARY PARISH, 313 E Wall St, Janesville. Visitation will begin on Monday at 10:00 AM until time of Mass at CHURCH. Entombment will follow at Milton Lawns Memorial Park and Mausoleum with Military Rites conducted by the VFW Post 1621. Memorials are appreciated to Nativity of Mary Parish.
