Richard J. Fahrney, age 88 passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe. He was born on June 25, 1937 at Deaconess Hospital in Monroe, WI the son of John and Luella (Lynch) Fahrney. Dick graduated from Hollandale High School in 1955 and began farming on the home farm. He would go on to own and operate the Pacesetter Shoe Store on the square in Monroe and later IBA Dairy Supplies from 1981 to 1993. He first married Marilyn Hendrickson in 1955 and later married Eileen Usher in 2009. Dick served as the Green County Coroner and was a charter member of Green County EMS. After retiring he would move to Sun Prairie where he drove school bus for many years. Dick was also a member of the Baraboo Masonic Lodge #34. He enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing, along with bowling and playing cards. Dick was also a skilled craftsman in his workshop creating many woodworking pieces. He will be fondly remembered for his gift of gab and wry sense of humor.
Richard is survived by his children Doug Fahrney, Debra (Bob) Blum, Billy (Dorene) Fahrney, and Tamara McIrvin, grandchildren Veronica, John, Brandon, Heidi, Rhonda, Fritz, Ross (Ashley), Allyce (James), and Dylan (Raeden), step-grandchildren Jeff, Joy (Mike), and Darrin (Valerie), twenty great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. He is further survived by his brother Don (Kay) Fahrney, sister-in-law Marilyn Fahrney, step-brother Earl (Ginny) McNeill, Eileen’s children and their families; Debra (Gerald) Baer, Jim (Anita) Nolden, and Kristin Ward, nieces, and nephews.
His wife Eileen passed away one day after Richard on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
He was preceded in death by his father John, mother Luella, step-father LeRoy McNeill, son Bob Fahrney, brother Lee Fahrney, step-brother Lee McNeill, and step-sister Janayne Spellman.
A gathering of relatives and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI. A Masonic service will conclude the gathering at 1:00 p.m.
