Richard "Dick" Rowe, age 88, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2023, at SSM-Health - Monroe, in Monroe, WI. He was born on May 18, 1934, in Wiota, WI the son of William and Mildred (Christenson) Rowe. Dick spent his entire life in the area, forging a legacy of adventure, hard work, and devotion to family and friends.

Dick was a proud graduate of Darlington High School and went on to work in construction as a heavy equipment operator for many years. He was a dedicated member of the Engineers Local 139 for 40 years, contributing to the development and growth of his beloved community. He also served his country in the military, where he played football while stationed in Korea.

A man of strong faith, Dick was an active member of Apple Grove Lutheran Church in rural Argyle. His commitment to his faith and his community was evident in the many organizations and clubs he was a part of throughout his life, including the Madison Ski Club, where he pursued his passion for skiing. Dick's adventurous spirit led him to explore the world through his love of skiing, taking trips throughout the United States, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. His interests also extended to hunting deer, grouse, and pheasant, as well as fishing, with a particular fondness for musky. He was a die-hard Darlington Redbird fan and proudly belonged to the Touchdown Club, showing his unwavering support for his hometown's sports teams.

Family was at the heart of everything Dick did. He is survived by his two brothers, James Rowe of Oregon, WI, and Jerry Rowe of rural Darlington, along with many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald Rowe; two sisters, Marion Rear and Leone O'Brien; three sisters-in-law, Joyce Rowe, Marjorie Rowe, and Harriet Rowe; and brothers-in-law, Maurice Rear and James O'Brien.

Some of the fondest memories his family will cherish are the times spent at the cabin in Boulder Junction, WI, where Dick took great pride in cutting his own firewood up until last fall. His analytical mind and interesting stories were a constant source of inspiration and entertainment for those fortunate enough to know him.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at 12:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main St., Darlington) with Rev. Daniel J. Bohlman of Apple Grove Lutheran Church in rural Argyle officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington where military graveside rites will be accorded by Bates-O’Brien-Howe-Wiegel-Roelli American Legion Post #214. A visitation will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2023 from 9:00 A.M. until 11:45 A.M. at the Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington.
