Raymond A. Hughes
Raymond A. Hughes

Raymond A. Hughes, age 97, of Kewaskum formerly of Monroe passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025 at Kettle Moraine Gardens. He was born on May 4, 1928 the son of Myron and Laura (Siegert) Hughes. He graduated from Marshfield High School. In February of 1950 Ray married Joyce Goggins. He was a member of St. Victor’s Catholic Church in Monroe.

With his beloved wife Joyce by his side, Ray built and operated the largest mobile home dealership in the state of Wisconsin for over 30 years. It was during this time that the memorable slogan, "Choose Hughes or We Both Lose," was born—a phrase that became well known across the region and a testament to Ray’s charismatic and entrepreneurial spirit.

Ray and Joyce built a beautiful life together in Monroe, raising four amazing children. Their summers were filled with laughter and lasting memories at their cherished lake home in Hatfield, Wisconsin, where days on Lake Arbutus were spent boating, water skiing, and entertaining a wide circle of family and friends.

An avid snow skier from a young age in Michigan, Ray’s love for the slopes led to countless joyful trips to the Upper Peninsula. Skiing became a beloved family tradition that continues to this day.

Ray took immense pride in his family and cherished every opportunity to spend time with them, whether during everyday gatherings or on his summer visits from his later home in Las Vegas. In 2008, Ray moved back to Wisconsin, settling in the Hartford area. He spent his days golfing, watching sports, and enjoying time with friends at Annie’s Bar in Slinger, his local favorite. Ray had a remarkable gift for friendship, and it’s no exaggeration to say that everybody loved Raymond.

Ray spent his final years at Kettle Moraine Gardens Assisted Living in Kewaskum, WI. It’s nearly impossible to express the depth of our love and gratitude for this loving staff. The care they provided Ray and the warmth they extended to our entire family gave us great comfort. They knew how to calm the heart, manage the chaos, and encourage the weary. It matters, and we will never forget it.

Ray is survived by his children, Sandra (Emil) Radeztsky, Vicki (Jim) Bosanny, Gary (Cindy) Hughes, and Lisa Luthi. Known for his vibrant personality and genuine warmth, Ray had a way of making everyone around him feel special. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his seven grandchildren, Aaron Jones, Matthew Bosanny, Anthony Hughes, Kathryn (Schmeling) Hughes, Marcus Hughes, Ryan Luthi and Christian Luthi. Ray was also blessed with 8 greatgrandchildren, including one on the way who carry forward his love, humor, and larger-than-life spirit.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Joyce, and 7 siblings.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. Victor Catholic Church at Christ the King Pastorate in Monroe. Private burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

A visitation will be held from 10:00AM until the time of service at the church.

Friends and family are also invited to join in Celebrating Ray’s life following the service, at the Fat Badger Pub and Grill, located at the Monroe Country Club.

To the extraordinary team from Allay Hospice: thank you. You knew how to read Ray’s needs, respond with compassion, show up at just the right moment, and stay until his heart, and ours were at peace. Your presence and care made a difference beyond words.

The family asks that each of you remember Ray by performing an act of kindness in any way you see fit.
