Ramona Celeste Komprood age 96, of Wiota passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Aster Assisted Living Thursday December 2, 2021. The daughter of Olaf and Edna (Wahler) Nysted. She was born on November 1, 1925, in Monroe. She lived her whole lifetime in the Wiota area. She graduated from Argyle High School in 1943. She began working at the J.I. Case Factory in Rockford right after graduation, as a Rosie the Riveter and did wiring on B26 bomber wings for the war. In the fall, she moved to Madison and continued her education at the Groves-Barnhart Business College. After earning her degree in accounting, her first job was at the Wisconsin Life Insurance Company in Madison. Ramona married J. Harold Komprood on June 9, 1945, at the West Wiota Lutheran Church. Ramona went back into the work force once her daughters were in elementary school. She was an accountant for McNett Chevrolet and FS, both in Darlington for many years. When the Eaton Corporation plant opened in Warren, ILL., Ramona was hired as the plant secretary/personal manager. She was employed with Eaton for 15 years until her retirement in 1987.

Ramona was baptized and confirmed at West Wiota Lutheran Church, a lifetime member, taught the preconfirmation Sunday school class for 25 years, served three years as president on the Wiota Church Council, served as the Women of the ELCA President for four terms (8 Years), and was active on many other church committees over the years. Ramona also served on the W-ELCA Synodical Board for 6 ½ years; serving her last 2-year term as Vice President. 

Ramona has always enjoyed playing softball. She began competitive organized softball while in Rockford back in 1943 which carried over to Madison where she managed a girls’ team for the YMCA on State Street. In 1957, she started the Wiota Raiders softball team; she coached, managed and played roving short for the next 31 years. Her softball days were over due to a broken wrist in January 1988.

In April 1988, Ramona began china painting. To date, she has painted over 900 pieces of china. Even two broken arms in 2013 didn’t stop her from china painting. Many pieces have been given as gifts to family and friends over the years. 

Ramona is survived by her daughters Sandra (Allan) Potter, Gratiot, WI and Marjorie (Alex) Olson, Monroe, WI. Her grandchildren: James (Kate) Potter, Edgerton, WI; Joe (Megan) Olson, White Bear Lake, MN., Kathleen Owens, Bell, FL., and Jonathan (Kayla) Olson, Madison, WI. She has five great-grandchildren – Faith, Barrett, and Finley Potter, Nathan Olson, Lucas Stapp, and Levi Owens.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, sisters: Lucille Merckx, Vivian Steele, brothers: Victor Nysted and Donald Nysted. 

A Funeral service will be held Monday, December 13, 2021, at 10:00 A.M. at the Wiota Lutheran Church (6682 STH 78, South Wayne) with Vicar Myron Crawford officiating.  Burial will be held at West Wiota Lutheran Church Cemetery following the funeral service. A visitation will be held Sunday, December 12, 2021, from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. at the church.
