Phyllis Arlene Wegman, age 92, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2023. Phylliswas born August 8, 1931 in Winona, Minnesota. She graduated from Cathedral High School in Winona. She attended St. Francis School of Nursing in La Crosse, Wisconsin and graduated as an R.N. in 1952. Phyllis is an honorary alumna of Viterbo University (Nursing) in La Crosse. Phyllis married Jim Wegman on April 14, 1956 in Winona, Minnesota.
Phyllis worked as an R.N. at St. Francis Hospital in La Crosse, McNeal Memorial Hospital in Berwyn, Illinois, and Stoughton Hospital in Stoughton, Wisconsin. She was an office nurse for Dr. Sam Sorkin of Evansville, Wisconsin. She retired from Stoughton Hospital in 1993.
Phyllis was a volunteer who taught catechism class at St. Paul Catholic Church in Evansville, Wisconsin. She delivered Meals on Wheels for many years, was a blood mobile volunteer and a senior citizen health care volunteer. Phyllis enjoyed golf, reading, swimming, cards and their cottage on Lake Redstone, in Reeds- burg, Wisconsin.
In retirement Jim and Phyllis spent 15 years travelling South in their Winnebago Warrior R.V. and eventually became “Winter Texans” in Texas. Jim and Phyllis moved to Monroe, Wisconsin in 2008. She was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church in Monroe.
Phyllis is survived by her three children, Sue Wegman of Menominee Falls, Wisconsin, Diane Parish of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, and Pete Wegman of Madison, Wisconsin. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Katie, Kelly, Ali, Jill, Danielle and Lexi; her seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and neph- ews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim; one brother; and three grandchildren. A private family service will be held at Krause Funeral Home in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Burial will be held at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Winona, Minnesota.
