Nathan “Nate” Louis Klassy, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023, at SSM Health Monroe. He was born the son of Peter and Elva (Reuber) Klassy on August 18, 1942, in Dane County, Wisconsin. He was a 1960 graduate of Monroe High School. Nate was united in marriage to Judith R. Rupp on November 1, 1963 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.
Nate worked for the City of Monroe for over 43 years; he was the Street Superintendent from 1968-1990, he then became the Director of Public Works until his retirement. Nate stayed connected to the community by serving on several committees including, the City of Monroe Planning Commission, Blackhawk Tech Diesel Mechanics Advisory Board, Green County Traffic Safety Commission, Green County Solid Waste Commission (Vice Chair), Transportation Information Center Advisory Board. Even after his retirement he gave much of his time to SWRPC Planning Commission, the Greenwood Cemetery Association Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, and the Badger State Ethanol Board.
Nate was also a member of Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed riding out west. He also enjoyed hunting and shooting. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Packers, Brewers, Bucks, WI Badgers, and NASCAR.
Nate is survived by his loving wife, Judy Klassy; his children, Keith (Maria) Klassy and Yvonne (Ryan) Schutte; his grandchildren, Kyle Klassy and Grant (fiancé, Nicole Smith) Klassy. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law, Don Grunder; and his half-sisters, Phill (Mike) Davis and Chris (Joe) Arnold.
He was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Peter and Frances Klassy; mother and step-father, Elva (Elton) Larson; sister, Joey Grunder; and half-brother, John Klassy.
Memorial Services will be held at 11AM on Friday, July 7, 2023 at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home with Pastor Pat Pluss officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent to the family at: shriner111.com.
