Michael John Marx

Michael John Marx passed away on April 1, 2022. He was born on New Year’s Day, 1947 in Marshfield, WI.  Michael is survived by his wife, Onalee and their two children Matthew (Jill) Marx and Caroline Marx ; brother Joseph Marx of Monroe, sister Barb (Ron) Greenway, Marquette, MI, sister Mary Collar of Moab, UT, brother in law, Robert Burrack and two grandsons, Mason and Justin Marx; and many nieces , nephews, cousins and friends.

Michael graduated from UW-Madison and worked as a registered pharmacist in Marshfield‘s St. Joseph’s Hospital. He then worked in Monroe for over 39 years at Monroe Clinic Hospital, also known earlier as St. Clare Hospital, and as a retail pharmacist at The Medicine Mart and Schultz Hometown Pharmacy.

He met his future wife while working at St. Clare Hospital. He married his best friend and wife, Onalee and their marriage continued for 45 plus years in Monroe. Together they had adventures of raising their two children, Matthew and Caroline while juggling their health care careers.

Michael has touched so many lives in Monroe. He was the voice and face, as a pharmacist, providing scores of patients and customers with their prescriptions, consultations about their medications and advice on over the counter products, which gave him pleasure, and lifetime friendships.

He collected Brewery related items, especially ones from Wisconsin. He was a philatelist, a gardener, and enjoyed traveling with his wife. He always said that his greatest accomplishments were his son, Matthew and his daughter, Caroline.

He will be dearly missed for his dry sense of humor, his quiet mannerisms, his patience, and spending time with his wife and family. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff at SSM Health Monroe Hospice Home for their incredibly compassionate care provided to Michael.

Memorials are appreciated to Green County Food Pantry, Behring Senior Center Endowment Fund, or an organization of your choice.

The Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home is assisting the family. A private family service will be held at a later date.

Michael requests that everyone just kick back, drink your favorite Wisconsin beverage and eat some Wisconsin cheese while remembering the good times together!
