Merwyn Paul Rose, age 93, of Monroe passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. He was born the son of Paul and Marian (Shrader) Rose on April 24, 1932 in Rockford. He graduated from Dakota High School.   On June 3, 1951 Merwyn married Edith Hambley together they had four children; Gloria, Ken, Wayne, and Carol.  Merwyn later married Yvonne Broge on July 2, 1981 in Reno, NV.

Merwyn farmed for several years and was a longtime member of the Farmers NFO.  He later worked for Southern Wisconsin Co-Op where he became the manager and also sold insurance during this time.  The bulk of his working years he was an owner/operator who drove semi for several companies. He and Yvonne worked alongside one another as over-the-road, team drivers for many years. On one of their trips out west, they planned their own stop in Reno to get married.  He also drove for Swiss Colony for many years before his first retirement.  Never one to sit still, Merwyn decided to go back to work at Ace Hardware in Monroe.  He eventually retired from Ace Hardware where he got to enjoy a second retirement party.  Merwyn never met a stranger and was always there to help everyone who needed it. 

Merwyn is survived by his children, Gloria (Garry) Segner of Monroe, Ken (Terri) Rose of Winslow, Wayne (Laurie) Rose of Monroe, and Carol (John) Steckelberg of Montana; step-son, Tim Broge of Darlington; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Cindy (Dave) Roessler and Patty Sue Rose; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Yvonne; brother, Harry “Pete” Rose; and sister, Patricia Adams; step-son, Todd Allan Broge; and daughter-in-law, Angie Broge.

A Service to Celebrate Merwyn’s Life will be held at 11AM on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Haworth officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Oneco Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10AM until the time of service.
