Merle Robertson, age 90, of Monroe, passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021 at The Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born June 14, 1931, the son of Orson Sr. and Elma (Richards) Robertson. He attended school in both Juda and Monroe. Merle belonged to the Army National Guard where he served for 15 years.
Merle married Barbara Foley on June 13, 1953 at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Monroe. He worked for Rees Construction for 33 years and then for the D.P.W Monroe Streets Department for 25 years having retired in 2005. After retiring Merle still worked at a local car wash, his apartment complex and around the community.
Merle was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ. He was a sign painter having painted many swiss shields and signs in the Monroe area. He also enjoyed traveling, hunting, and being with his family. He was an avid Packer, Brewer, and NASCAR fan. Merle enjoyed breakfast with the guys at The Corner Café, scratch off tickets, and a well-done hamburger plain with no seeds on the bun.
He is survived by his children, Laura (Mike) Molitor, John (Mary) Robertson, Bird (Rich) Frontz, Bitsy (Curt) Lindsay; sisters, Lois Draney, Eva Penniston, Mary Severson, Dorothy Provoast, and Nancy Gleason; grandchildren, Jason Robertson, Joseph Robertson, David Robertson, Michael Wang, Brandon Frontz, Bailey Bowen and Derek Wang; great grandchildren Barrick Bowen, Ally Bowen, Marlie Frontz and Layla Robertson, and special friend Patricia Hampton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Barbara Robertson; son, James Robertson; brothers, Burnette Robertson, Charles Robertson, and Junior Robertson; sisters Jeanette Robertson, Goldie Bruegger, and Charlotte Johnson.
Private family services will be held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to St. John’s United Church of Christ.
