Matthew Glen Mitchell, age 75, passed away on November 27, 2025 at Meriter Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. Matt was born on April 11, 1950, in Monroe, Wisconsin to Arlie “Buck” and Arabelle Mitchell. After graduating from Blackhawk High School in South Wayne, Matt served his country for two years of active duty with the Army in Vietnam. He married his high school sweetheart, Lynn Johnson, in 1971. They lived in Verona, Wisconsin most of their married life. Matt spent most of his life working in sales in the Madison area. He was employed by Madison Beauty Supply, Ersel Motors, and Symdon Chevrolet until his retirement.
Over the years, Matt enjoyed vacationing in Jamaica, Mexico, and Sarasota, Florida. He liked watching sports on TV and was an avid Badger football fan having season tickets for many years. In his later years Matt enjoyed “buggy rides” to Monroe, South Wayne, and Wiota. Matt’s outgoing nature ensured that everyone he interacted with was always left with a good story. Visiting ill friends whether in their homes or the hospital was a “must” for Matt.
Matt is survived by his son, Ryan Mitchell of Verona and his significant other, Kathy Ramey, Verona. He is also survived by his brothers, John Mitchell of Browntown, Mark (Carol) Mitchell of Depere; sister, Mary Shliem of Platteville; brothers-in-law, Don Milz of Monroe, Jim (Kathy) Johnson of Wiota; uncle, Don Spencer of Cottage Grove; and many nieces and nephews.
Matt was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lynn; in-laws, Gordon and Betty Johnson; sisters-in-law, Joan Milz and Sally Mitchell; and brother-in-law, Jerry Johnson.
Matt’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him and the family traditions he passionately upheld.
