Mary Ann Matthews, age 91 of Monroe, died Monday, January 25, 2021 at Azura Memory Care. She was born on August 20, 1929 in Monroe, the daughter of Clarence and Leona (Johnson) DeVoe. She graduated from Blackhawk High School in South Wayne. Mary Ann married Kenneth C. Kleckner on September 26, 1948 in Monroe, he died in 1990. Mary Ann then married Chester Matthews on November 1, 1994 in Monroe; he died in 2006.

Mary Ann was a beautician by trade, she owned Mary Ann’s Beauty Shop, retiring in 1992. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Women of the Moose, chapter #594, and the American Legion Auxilliary. She enjoyed taking trips, playing euchre, and loved to go shopping.

She is survived by two daughters: Debra (Dennis) Kleckner-Figi of Monroe and Donna (Dick Nelson) Flynn of Plano, IL; grandchildren: Brian (Milissa) Hawthorn, Chad (Cristy) Hawthorn, Amber (Derek Thompson) Flynn, and Kimberly (Marc Kaste) Flynn; 2 great grandchildren; brother, James (Mary Lou) DeVoe of South Wayne; step-daughters: Heidi Matthews and Joyce Matthews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, daughter, Julie Marks, sister, Opal Grossen; and special friend, Harry Olson.

Graveside services will be held in the Spring for family and friends at Greenwood Cemetery; an obituary will run with dates and times in the spring. SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home is assisting the family.
