    Mary L. Hafen, age 88 of Brodhead, died Friday, January 23, 2026 at her and her daughter’s home in South Wayne. She was born on November 9, 1937, the daughter of Marvin and Pauliene (Hyatt) Stabler. She graduated from Brodhead High School in 1955. Mary was united in marriage to Harold E. Hafen on January 4, 1961 in Iowa and they blended their families as one. Mary worked for many years as a waitress at the Harris House in Brodhead as well as many years at Swiss Colony. She enjoyed bowling, and was on several leagues in Brodhead and Lake Summerset. She liked tending to her flower beds, and loved hosting Sunday meals at her home with family. Mary cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and enjoyed going to all their sporting activities. She was also an avid Green Bay Packer, Wisconsin Badger, and Milwaukee Brewer fan.

     She is survived by her children: Janelle (Brad) McDermott of Fayetteville, AR, Ted Keyes of Madison, Everett (Judy) Fowler of Brodhead, Tammy (Mike) Clark of Brodhead, Edwin Hafen of Brodhead, Joan (Randy) Jenson of South Wayne, and Jean (Mike Scott) Day of Brodhead; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Clara Hafen of Fayetteville, AR; sister-in-law, Donna Stabler of Brodhead; many nieces and nephews; lifelong friends, Jim and Sheila Price families of Ohio and Isabelle O’Brien-Foslin of Belleville. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Phillip Hafen; grandson, Brad Kaderly; granddaughter, Tabitha in infancy; son-in-law, Jeffrey Day; brother, Jerry Stabler and sister, Betty Everson.

     Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Brodhead Congregational United Church of Christ, with Rev. Tiff Bates officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. A visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service, at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established. Everson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
