Marilyn J. Workman, age 88, of New Glarus died on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at the New Glarus Home. She was born on July 28, 1932 in Monroe, the daughter of Glen (Ted) and Inez (Mitchell) Kubly.

Marilyn graduated from Monroe High School in 1950, graduated from North Central College in Naperville, IL in 1954 with a degree in education and religion, she also received her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from U.W. Platteville in 1975.

Marilyn and Elmer Freitag were united marriage in 1970 in Rockton, IL and lived in Monticello. She later married Charles Workman in 2003 and lived in New Glarus.

Marilyn taught school in the lower grades for 40 years, teaching in Roseville, MI, Lombard, IL, she worked for the Department of Defense and taught at, Layes AFB in the Azores, Misaua AFB, in Japan, Kadina AFB, in Okinawa, Kaiserlautin AFB in Germany, and Berlin AFB in Germany, Atlantic Beach FL, Loves Park, IL. She also taught in Monroe for 27 years, teaching at South and Abraham Lincoln Schools.

She was a member of Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello, were she served on the Zwingli Church Consistory, president of the Women’s Guild, Ruth Circle and taught Sunday School. She also was a member of the Green County Educators and Great Lake Lighthouse

Association; served on North Central College Alumni board and received an outstanding Alumni award in 1999. Marilyn also loved to travel, traveling to 35 different countries through her lifetime.

She is survived by her sister, Claire (Ken) Schuetz of Middleton, niece, Molly (Kevin) Pape of Cross Plains, and a nephew, Doug Schuetz, of Wautoma.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and husbands.

Private family graveside services will be held at a later date. Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home is serving the family.
