Lois Caroline Glessner, age 85, died Friday, May 21, 2021, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, following a 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s and physical complications. She was born May 17, 1936, in Sublette, IL, the daughter of Ethel (Schraf) and Ray Moritz. Her schooling was at a one-room rural school and high school at Dixon, IL.
She married her high school sweetheart, Jim Glessner, Aug. 7, 1955 in Dixon, and was proud of her three children, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was chief floral designer at Clayton’s Floral in Dixon; Rosa Floral in Monroe, Sentry in Monroe, and she was also a dietary cook at (the then) Monroe Manor for many years before her retirement. She and Jim had celebrated 65 years of marriage.
She was known for her gardening skills, and for her English Cottage Garden at the Glessner residence in Monroe. Her floral arranging skills were well known and her home reflected her love of flowers.
She had a connection to U.S. history, tracing her ancestry back to the Lewis family of the legendary Lewis and Clark Expedition.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; children, Greg (Barb) of Evansville, Mark of Casper, WY, and Linda (Curt) Dickson of Monroe; grandchildren, Erika (Brett) Gassman of Pecatonica, IL, David (Melissa) Dickson of Monroe, Jaime and Zach Glessner both of Evansville; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Addie Gassman of Pecatonica, IL, and Keegan and Dawson Dickson of Monroe; and several nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parent; two brothers, and a favorite aunt, Audrey (Scharf) Porter.
Private family services will be held following cremation at Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home. Private inurnment at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Dixon, IL will follow at a later date.
