Larry Gene Goecks, Age 81, of rural Blanchardville, passed away Nov 20, 2024 at UW Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born Nov 1, 1943 in Monroe, Wis to Frederick and Gertrude (Burkhalter) Goecks. Larry attended Plain View Country School and graduated from New Glarus High School in 1961. He was united in marriage to Arlene Duffy at Perry Lutheran Church and they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in July. A jack of all trades and an excellent carpenter, he was always ready to help his family and friends. Larry enjoyed tinkering in his shop, working in his yard, family gatherings, the Packers and Badgers, chocolate cream pie, and a visit to the casino. Larry was so proud of his family and loved his good little girl, Rosie. Larry and Arlene enjoyed many trips together and in earlier years, he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson cycle. He was a faithful and loved member of Primrose Lutheran Church.
Larry is survived by his wife Arlene, daughter Julie Goecks-Platteville, son Jeff (Lisa) Goecks-Blanchardville, grandchildren Amanda Bjyrd-Menifee, CA, Benjamin (Eriko) DeHaan-Otsu City, Japan, Amanda Walters-Argyle, Sammy Way-Monroe, great-grandchildren Alana, Alvin, Braxton, Ema, Landen, Leland and Makena. He is further survived by a sister Kathy (Bill) Wyss-Tolstoy SD, brother Lonny (Marcia) Goecks, Franklin WI, special niece Debra Adler, in-laws Bob & Alice Yaeger, Don & Delores Larson, and Elton Duffy, good friend Jim Mckeon, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother LeRoy (Therese) Goecks, in-laws Hjalmar & Amy Duffy, Gene & Linda Duffy, Jerry & Lucille Duerst and Ruth Ann Duffy.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Primrose Lutheran Church, 8770 Ridge Dr., Belleville, WI.
A gathering of relatives and friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Ave., New Glarus, WI.
The family wishes to thank the Palliative Care Unit at UW Hospital, granddaughter Amanda who lovingly stayed by her grandpa’s side until the end, brother-in-law Elton, sister-in-law Delores, niece Debra, and good friend Marsha Edlinger.
