Joseph W. Mick

     Joseph W. Mick, age 69 of Monroe, died Monday, February 19, 2024 at his home, with his wife by his side. He was born on January 30, 1955 in Dodgeville, WI, the son of John and Juanita (Speth) Mick. He graduated from Darlington High School and attended college in Fennimore for a couple years. Joseph was united in marriage to his first wife on January 30, 1976 and together they had three children. Joseph married Peggy (Paske) Blom on May 22, 2010 in Twining Park. Joe started out farming with his father, then went to work for Kelly Springfield, and was skilled in many trades; he later retired from Monroe Truck Equipment. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ.

     Joe enjoyed sports and coaching; he coached youth bowling for 30 years, baseball for 4 years, and softball for 6 years. He also umpired for 20 years. He still found time to play softball for 40 years, until he was 57 years old. He loved to play softball, bowl, umpire, fish, hunt, and spend time with his grandchildren. He was also passionate about eagles, and had a large collection.

       He is survived by his wife, Peggy Mick of Monroe; children: Tanya (Rick) McCoy and Jacob (Nicole) Mick both of Monroe, Tara (Charlie Fink) Mick, of Janesville; step-children: Ryan (Amanda) Weiss of Monroe, Jessica Weiss of MO, Kelsea (Zac Baldwin) Blom, Brodhead; 4 grandchildren: Sami (fiancé, Shawn), Cassidy (fiancé, Derek), Bayley and Dior; a great grandson, Nathan; 6 step-grandchildren: Konnor, Colton, Abrailee, Maizlee McKenna, and Daniel; sisters, Kathy Gould of Darlington and Theresa (Moby) O’Brien of Darlington; brother, Don Mick of Ohio; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended relatives; as well as dear friend, Jan Perry. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patty Rackow; and a granddaughter, Emileah Ready in infancy.

     A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home, with Jeff Ditzenberger officiating.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, February 28, from 4-7 pm at the funeral home; continued visitation will take place on Thursday from 10 am until the time of service. Condolences may be sent to the family at: shriner111.com.
