John R. Cotherman, age 82, a lifelong resident of Monroe passed away on Sunday, August 5th at Monroe SSM Hospital. John was born on December 7, 1935 in Monroe and was the son of John and Margaret Cotherman.

John is survived by his sister, Frances (Naaman) Bechtolt of Lake Tomahawk WI, his nephew, Gary Butenhoff, and nieces, Cathy (Steve) Maurer and Kimberly (Brian) Reed, and his great nieces and nephews; Brian (Jessica) Butenhoff, Michael (Rory) Maurer, Lisa (Dan) Buol, Brandon (Kimberly) Butenhoff, Jessica (Mark) Boccia and Meg Butenhoff. He also had great-great nieces and nephews; Monika Buol, Skylar Butenhoff, Hailey Butenhoff, Alyse Maurer, Gavin Maurer, Reed Boccia and Faith Boccia.

He is also survived by many beloved friends that were a big part of his life and provided him with wonderful memories.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Cotherman, mother, Margaret Cotherman, sister, Marian Butenhoff, his brothers-in law, Naaman Bechtolt and Harrison Butenhoff and beloved nephew Brian Reed. John’s cherished beagle, Billy, will also be waiting to greet him at Heaven’s gates.

Per John’s wishes a private grave side service was held for the immediate family on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at the Greenwood Cemetery. Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home assisted the family. Memorials will be donated to the Green County Humane Society.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the wonderful ICU nurses that took incredible care of John. They not only provided him with comfort and compassion, they extended that to our whole family
