John Emmons was a longtime teacher at Monroe High School before retiring a little more than 20 years ago. He died on July 17, 2023.

John Emmons, 79, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe. John was born on July 30, 1943, at Madison General Hospital, Madison. He was the son of Homer and Vivian (Soule) Emmons and the second of eight siblings. He graduated form Pardeeville High School in 1961. He served as a dental technician in the U.S. Army from 1962-65, including time served in Vietnam. He graduated with Honors from the UW-CALS with a BS Degree in Agriculture Education in 1971. John taught ½ year at Monroe High School prior to graduation from the UW, then taught for two years at Pecatonica High School from 1971-1973, one year at Columbus 1973-1974, and 26 years at Monroe High School 1974-2000.  As advisor for the Monroe FFA, he celebrated the many achievements of the chapter as they were recognized as the top chapter in Wisconsin several times and earned numerous district, sectional, state, and national awards. The FFA provided students with a strong foundation for career building as well as leadership opportunities which helps in preparing them for leadership roles as adults. While teaching he was awarded an Honorary State FFA Degree, Honorary American FFA Degree and was named a member of the Wisconsin FFA Hall of Fame. 

John is survived by four sisters, Linda (Robert Dates), Martha (William Breneman), Pat (Betty) Emmons, and Cindy (Carl Breneman). He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Vivian (Soule), brothers Jim and David and by sister Virginia. 

A Time of Remembrance and Celebration of Life will be held at the Koning Maple Leaf Lane Event Center on Sunday, Sept 17. Food will be served at 1:00 p.m., a short program and time for sharing at 2:00 p.m. Former students are encouraged to wear their FFA attire. The John Emmons Memorial Fund has been established at the First National Bank in Monroe.
