Joel F. Tertin, age 66, of Monroe, died Friday, May 24, 2024 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. Joel was born on May 5, 1958 in Monroe, the son of Virgil and Joyce (Haman) Tertin. Joel graduated from Monroe High School in 1976 and was united in marriage to Cheryl Stuckey on August 2, 1980 in Juda. Joel was employed in the retail food industry most of his life. He worked for Zims IGA, Stairs Food Center in Galena, IL, and was known as “the fruit man” of Brennan’s Market for several years. He most recently worked seasonally at Anne’s Garden Center in Dixon, IL and The Garden Spot of rural Monroe.

Joel was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, Monroe Moose Lodge #754, and enjoyed traveling. He was passionate about fishing (especially his trips to Alaska), Elk hunting, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. His family and friends will miss Joel’s knack for telling jokes and pulling pranks.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Tertin of Monroe; son, Jesse (JaNessa) Tertin and their children, Parker and Ansley, all of Pillager, MN; daughter, Lindsay (Paul) Rydzewsi and their children, Rylie, Paige, and Jude, all of Caledonia, WI; brothers, James (Vicki) Tertin of Pillager, MN, David (Diane) Tertin of Woodford; and an aunt, Doris Schmerse of Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Tertin; uncle, Mike Schmerse; and an aunt, Sadie (Louis) Oostdik.

A celebration of Joel’s life will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at the Monroe United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jeffrey Meyer officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 2nd, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe. A memorial fund will be established in Joel’s name.
