SPRINGFIELD, Illinois – Joan Peters Bachman, 69, of Springfield, passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 2018 at her home after a long and courageous battle with ALS.

She was born in Monroe, WI, May 24, 1949 the daughter of Erwin and Ann (Harris) Peters. She married James “Jim” Bachman in Madison WI in 1970 and he survives.

Also surviving are her two daughters, Jennifer (Jim) Bachman O’Brien of New Canaan, CT and Jill (J.T.) Bachman Inman of St. Joseph, MI, six grandchildren: Jane O’Brien, Jacob O’Brien, Johannah O’Brien, Emma Inman, Madeline “Maddy” Inman and Beatrix “Bebe” Inman, her brother, Erwin “Pete” (Libby) Peters of St. Louis, MO and several nieces and nephews.

Joan retired from Bergner’s in 1999 after 22 years of service. She worked in the housewares department and was the manager of the Trim a Home department.

Joan was a member of Laurel United Methodist Church, a member of the Springfield Civic Garden Club, the Madam Alexander Doll Club, Chapter FU of the PEO Sisterhood, the Bridge Center, and was a Master Naturalist. She was an avid Bicyclist and enjoyed volunteering at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library. Joan was well known for her signature Chocolate Chip Cookies that she would often share with family, friends and at gatherings.

The Bachman family will greet friends Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018 at Laurel United Methodist Church 631 s. Grand Ave. West, Springfield, IL from 9:30 am until the time of a funeral service at 11:00 am. Rev. Dr. Kent Lolling will officiate.  Graveside Services will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, WI. On Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018 at 10:30 am.  In lieu of flowers, those who wish may direct memorial contributions to the ALS Association 2258 Weldon Pkwy, St. Louis, MO 63146 or the Animal Protective League 2001 Taintor Rd. Springfield, IL 62702.
