Janet L. Hartwig passed away peacefully at Hearthstone Memory Care in Whitewater, WI. June 30, 2025. Janet was born December 02, 1932 to Victor and Dorothy (Hall) Stauffacher. She was a 1950 graduate of Monroe High School. She married John D. Hartwig on February 04, 1951 at the St. John’s United Church of Christ, Monroe WI. John preceded her in death April 19, 2008 after 57 years of marriage.

 

Janet worked at The United Telephone Company, Bauman Ace Hardware, My Lady’s Dress Shop, Miller’s Jewelry (J.J. Smith Jewelry), Anchor Savings & Loan, managing Miller’s Jewelry for several years.

 

Janet was a lifetime member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Monroe, serving many years with the women’s auxiliary and teaching Sunday school.

 

Janet grew up on a farm as a young girl and continued to experience farm life with her husband John and their children in Clarno Township, and then moved to Monroe in 1967. She enjoyed traveling (especially trips to Florida and Hawaii) cooking/baking/candy making, Sunday afternoon drives, taking care of her family. She and John spent countless hours in their breathtakingly beautiful flower gardens. She was a most talented cook. She will be fondly remembered for her amazing dishes and for keeping several cherished family recipes going.

 

Together John and Janet had 3 children. Surviving are Sons; Kenneth Hartwig of Waunakee WI, Robert (Marcia) Hartwig of Janesville WI, Daughter; Christine Hartwig of Burnsville MN. Grandsons; Brian (Jennah) Hartwig, James (Beth) Hartwig, Paul (Cheryl) Hartwig and Mark (Chrissy) Hartwig, 14 Great-Grandchildren and 4 Great-great Grandchildren, Brother-in-law; Earl Jacobson.

 

Janet was predeceased by her Parents, Husband, infant brother; Robert, Twin Sister; Jean Jacobson (Schiller) Daughter-in-laws Barb, Kris and several beloved grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Shriner Hager Gohlke Funeral Home with Pastor Luke Bocher officiating.  Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery with her husband.

 

A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.  Condolences may be sent to the family at: shgfuneralhome.net.
