Jan Rae Johnsen, age 85, of Monroe, WI passed away Monday, February 17, 2020 at Graceland Manor in Monroe. She was born December 16, 1934, the daughter of Lloyd and Maytie (Cushman) Jinkins. She grew up in Rural Mineral Point, WI. After graduating from Mineral Point High School, Jan was united in marriage to Donald Johnsen on June 4, 1953 in Platteville, WI. Jan and Donald worked together on the family dairy farm. Jan’s absolute favorite chore on the farm was raking the fresh cut hay in the Summer on her Oliver 88.

Jan is survived by her children: Linda (Mark) Quire of Browntown, WI, Cindy (John) Wilson of Lenoir City, TN, Jack (Debra) Johnsen of Waldwick, WI, Jim (Linda) Johnsen of Lamont, WI, and Jeff (Kathy) Johnsen of Lamont; seventeen grandchildren; thirty six great-grandchildren; and one sister: Faye Pensel of Livingston, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald on December 14, 1997; her parents; two grandchildren: Anita and Christopher Johnsen; two sisters: Cecile “Cec” Washkoske and Weldene Jinkins; and one brother in infancy.

Jan was affiliated with many local organizations including the Lamont United Methodist Church, Lamont Town Board, she was in charge of the Lamont Recycling center, a member of the Red Hatters, and “Wiota Widows.” Jan enjoyed playing cards, dancing, watching the packers, and gambling, but family was the most important part of her life. Jan also loved to go fishing, attend garage sales, quilting, and enjoyed her time as a care giver for the elderly. Jan also loved her time driving the van for children with special needs for the Argyle School district, leaving a smile on their faces each and every time. Jan will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 24, 2020, at the Darlington United Methodist Church (546 Main St. Darlington, WI 53530) with Pastor Paul Gregorsen of the Lamont United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Platteville. A visitation will be held Sunday, February 23, 2020, at the Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington (508 Park Place, Darlington, WI 53530) from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM and on Monday at the church from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM.
